Personal Background- Ray Massey is a photographer based out of the UK. He discovered photography when he was 13 years old in school. He went to colleges Somerset and Kent, where he was able to learn about Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography. His parents supported his career but would rather him taken a different, proper job. In College he experimented with different techniques and ways to show his photography.
Style- Ray Massey has many different styles of photography. One of his main styles are still life photos with solid color backgrounds. It really makes the center of his images stand out. He also does still life photos of hands, where the hands have designs or a painting on them. He takes photos of locations, people and drinks as well.
Philosophy- Ray Massey has many different photos with many different meanings. I think some are just for a cool and interesting photo and some have a deeper, political meaning. He takes many photos of drinks or people for an advertisement of a company. Some of his photos of people can show struggle and sadness or happiness and energy. He has a very broad meaning for all his photos and he has many different styles.
Influences- Ray Massey has influenced me in my still life photos. He has made me think more of the background and how to get the image to really stand out. Ray Massey mainly found his own way in his photography by experimenting with different elements in his studies. He found what worked best for him in his photography. I think that my photos have turned out better from looking and paying more attention to the background.

Still Life and Hands Still Life and Hands Comparison- I did not have the right materials for the outside numbers of the clock so I used legos. Our kitchen table is yellow so I used that as my base because it was the same color. I has a struggle trying to get the right lighting and I think I did pretty well. I also think I got the angle correct.
La Creuset Comparison- I saw this image and decided to recreate it because we had a similar pot in my house. I had to use a stage light effect on my camera to get the black background in the image. I think it turned out pretty well because the background is a solid black with only the pot showing. The only thing I struggled with is getting the whole pot into view.
Le Parfait Jars Comparison- I had mason jars in my house so I used those for this image. I had similar struggles and triumphs to the La Creuset photos because I had to use the same light effect. I also think these turned out well because I got them to show. It cut out some of the outside of the bigger jars but this was the best I could do.
Personal Artist Statement- I had many struggles with these photos because of the lighting of them. I had to use the rule of thirds to get the objects in the center of the photo. I want the first photo to show what other uses kitchen items can have and how there are always other paths to take. The second photo shows that things can look bigger than they appear, and challenges may seem scary but you can overcome them. The third photo shows differences between jars and can relate to people because they all do the same function although they look different.
